Changes within the Mobile Phone Industry
The end of 2006 saw several changes for companies within the mobile phone industry. Philips semiconductors became independent and were renamed "NXP Semiconductors". Founded by Philips, during 2006 and based in Eindhoven, NXP Semiconductors are located worldwide and have several R&D centres in France (Sophia-Antipolis, Grenoble, Caen, Le Mans)

BenQ Mobile, formerly a division of Siemens and part of the Taiwanese corporation BenQ, went into liquidation in late September 2006, one year after the acquisition of Siemens Mobile division.

Created in 1990, TTPCommunications, formerly of the TTP Group, were acquired by Motorola in the summer of 2006. Based in Cambridge, UK, TTPCommunications has a R&D centre in Sophia-Antipolis and develops embedded software for mobile phones. Several other changes and integrations in 2006, which also include the Chipcon acquisition by Texas Instruments, do indicate the overall good health of the mobile phone industry at this time.
